Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics software application widely used in for creating drawings, illustrations, and artwork. Originally meant for Apple computers, development of Adobe Illustrator started in the year 1985. Developed in C++ programming language and released in the year 1987. Currently, Illustrator runs in several operating systems; Windows 10 x64 bit Only v1703 and later, macOS 10.12 Sierra and later.

With Adobe Illustrator, you can design a variety of digital arts and printed images and pictures. Some of them include cartoons, charts, diagrams, graphs, logos, and illustrations. One can also import an image in the working area and use it as a guide when tracing an object. In addition to, Illustrator is a useful text formatting software. You can use it to manipulate text as much as you would wish. This feature has made Illustrator a useful tool when designing posters and poster cards which make use of both images and text.

Even though one can purchase and license Illustrator separately, Creative Cloud (CC) library has Adobe Illustrator as one of its products. Products listed in the Creative Cloud library are available to customers at a subscription fee. This feature also makes it possible to share Adobe illustrator with other Creative Cloud products such as After Effects, InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Pro.

Unlike Adobe Photoshop which uses a pixel-based format to create designs, Adobe Illustrator uses mathematical constructs when creating vector graphics. This feature enables one to change an image size gradually without affecting the quality of the image.

Adobe Illustrator supports several file formats when either saving or importing an art or an image. Some of the most common file formats are Windows Metafile (WMF), Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), Portable Document Format (PDF), and many more. These file formats determine the usefulness of the designs created.

Nowadays, Illustrator can run in many operating systems including Windows and MacOs. The only major difference between the two is the Keyboard keys. For Mac users they users the Command key while windows users use the Control key. Adobe Illustrator is a useful design software for designers. Even though, the tools might seem complicated for newbies, with time and practice it becomes easy to use and understand.
